PC Kevin Garner is a police motorcyclist based at Cockett Police Station in Swansea.

He'll be sharing his tales of bad riding behaviour on the South Wales roads in a monthly blog.

How long have you been riding a motorcycle?

Just over 10 years now.

What made you get into biking?

It must be in the blood as my father and five brothers are all bikers and I couldn't really avoid it. I had some off road experience which got me hooked and I haven't looked back since.

Why did you choose to become a bike cop?

I love motorcycling so I can use my hobby and passion to make a difference and try and educate other bikers about the need to stay safe on the roads. Plus I get paid for doing something I love!

What do you enjoy most about biking?

The flexibility and the freedom of being on a bike and also you feel part of the environment.

And the best thing about the job?

With the high standard of training and vast knowledge I've gained as a bike cop, I've been able to use this to benefit the public and fellow bikers, passing on the skills and wisdom I've learnt. I've also had the pleasure and honour of escorting high profile dignitaries, VIPs and celebs.

And the worst?

Having to attend road traffic collisions where accidents have occurred due to poor riding/driving and individuals have been really badly hurt.

What's the best bit of motorcycling advice you've been given?

Always be willing to learn and never overestimate your ability. Oh, and be safe.

Kevin is a police advanced motorcyclist and car driver with VIP grade. He's been in the force for 10 years and worked on traffic for nearly four of these. As well as a qualified CBT instructor, Kevin is one of the co-ordinators leading the BikeSafe initiative in the South Wales Police force area.
